"Stronger Together" This project combined limited resources from two institutions, Lincoln University and the City of Jefferson Parks and Recreation, to create a structure for the entire community.
Lincoln University combined efforts with the Architect to determine programmatic needs, budget parameters, and land acquisition requirements in order to build a student recreation center to include one gym court and a fitness center as its first phase.
City of Jefferson Parks and Recreation simultaneously planned for a recreation center to include multiple gym courts and community meeting spaces, but needed adequate funding and a centrally located site available to the entire community.
The University Board of Regents and the City Council shared common facility goals and limited resources. A partnership resulted in a facility that exceeded the expectations of each. The combined funding enabled an architectural program which included 4 gym courts, spectator seating, an elevated running track, public meeting rooms, University classrooms, a fully equipped fitness center, concessions, multi-purpose dining, locker rooms, an administrative suite, a game room, and a rooftop deck overlooking the football stadium's 50 yard line.To form this partnership, the University provided a central site on campus and 40% of the funding, while the City provided 60% of funding and utility infrastructure assistance. The economic impact has been exponential. In the surrounding area, a new Boys and Girls club has been constructed, the University football stadium has seen a renovation, and the public high school is beginning a $35m renovation.
